Beware of 'bait and switch' coverage

Editor:
"Anti-Israel seminar blocked" (Jewish News, June 13) illustrates the bait-and-switch technique of appearing to offer a balanced program on the Middle East and then delivering virulent anti-Israel tirades.

I attended a seminar titled "After Oslo: New Strategies for Middle East Peace" on Feb. 9 at Arizona State University. This all-day program was sponsored by the ASU Jewish Studies Program, Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix and the Hillel Jewish Student Center. The seminar panel consisted of two Arabs and two Jews. From the title, I expected to hear a balanced presentation of the issues but the program was instead anti-Israel and pro-Arab, with even the two Jewish members of the panel representing the "Peace Now" positions.

I e-mailed the sponsors complaining of the imbalanced position but received no replies.

Israel is not ours to give away

Editor:
In the letter to the editor, "Life is more holy than land," (Jewish News, June 13) Sherman Minkoff asserts, "to secure peace and to save lives, we are directed to violate each commandment, save for the prohibitions on murder, adultery and idolatry." The land of Israel is not ours to give away. God gave it to the entire Jewish nation. Any territorial concession of Jewish holy land is a direct violation of Jewish Law.
