Obituaries

Seymour Tomback

Seymour Tomback of Scottsdale died May 21, 2003. He was 78. He was born in Chicago and moved to Arizona in 1985. He was a retired businessman and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Jewish War Veterans and a past member of B'nai B'rith.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; daughters Karyn Mor of San Diego; and Susan Brody of Scottsdale; son, Jay Tomback of Scottsdale; and seven grandchildren.

Services were held at Paradise Memorial Gardens. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix 85014.



Claire Glass Shindel

Claire Glass Shindel passed away Saturday, May 24, 2003 after a long illness. She was born in Burlington, Vt. on April 3, 1927 and moved to Paradise Valley from Hartford, Conn. in 1969.

She is survived by her best friend and husband of 64 years, Manny; three children, Nancy Spencer (Roger), Leonard (Maxine) and David (Tricia); 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two step-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, May 27, 2003 in the Temple Solel Section of Green Acres in Scottsdale, with Rabbi Alan Berlin officiating. The family asks that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary.



Jerome P. Steigmann

Jerome P. Steigmann, age 77, of Phoenix, passed away on May 27, 2003. He was born in Maspeth, N.Y., son of Harry and Eva Steigmann, on June 14, 1925. He was retired from the New York City Police Department after 22 years. He was a pioneer in Forensic Identification Methods. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was also in the U.S. Army Reserve. He was a member of the Jewish War Veterans Post #194, the 6th Marine Division Association, Inc., the Arizona 10-13 Club, NYPD Shomrim Society, DEA, the American Legion Post #107 and the Retired and Disabled Police of Arizona.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Miriam (Mimi); daughters Inez (Rich) Schloss of Phoenix and Dr. Sharon D. Steigmann (Mary Ellen Baker) of Apache Junction; grandsons Ron, Paul (Carrie) and Matt; and three great-granddaughters, Destiny, Maddison and Riley. He is also survived by two sisters and a brother, Sheila Kaldor of Plainview, N.Y., Jackie Stoller of Williamsburg, Va. and Frederick Steigmann of Mountainside, N.J. and their spouses and children.

Jerome was predeceased by his parents and two sisters, Dorothy Steigmann and Leonora Levine.

Interment was held in the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona on Thursday, May 29, 2003, with military rites. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory are suggested to go to The Arizona Humane Society, 9226 N. 13th Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85021 and/or Hospice of Vista Care, 4222 E. Thomas Rd., Suite #220, Phoenix, AZ 85018. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary.



John Wolf

John Wolf, age 87, passed away May 27, 2003 in Scottsdale. He was born in Johannesburg, South Africa and moved to Phoenix 15 years ago.

Survivors include his daughter Irna (Raymond) Shamos, son Raoul (Gill) Wolf, sister Kattie Immerman, brother Isaac Wolf, six grand-children and one great-grandchild. Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, May 30, 2003 at 9:30 a.m. in Phoenix Memorial Park, 200 W. Beardsley Rd. in Phoenix.
