Jewish News signs lease renewal

STAFF REPORT
Jewish News of Greater Phoenix has signed a 67-month renewal lease at the Northern Avenue building that has been its address for nearly nine years.

The lease expands Jewish News' offices from 2,700 to 4,874 square feet, providing more space for 23 current employees and enabling future staff expansion, said Florence Eckstein, Jewish News publisher.

In conjunction with the expansion, the newspaper has painted and recarpeted and replaced some antiquated furnishings with modular units.

"We had considered moving," Eckstein said, "but our proximity to SR 51 means we're accessible to the public and our staff, and other space we looked at was either too costly or didn't suit our needs."

In its 55 years of publishing, the family-owned Jewish community weekly newspaper has moved several times, from the one-room garage of its first publisher, M.B. Goldman, Jr., to various office locations in central and north Phoenix.

"Business growth commensurate with the growth of the community has prompted each move," Eckstein said. "We're now well positioned for the next several years."

Eckstein said she is particularly grateful to Deb Karel, assistant to publisher, and Becky Globokar, production manager, for managing the move.

Jewish News is on the first floor of a two-story building at 1625 E. Northern Ave. in Phoenix owned by St. John's Woods Associates, Oreg. Ltd. of Oregon.
