Obituaries

Burt Weinberg

Burt Weinberg of Phoenix died April 23, 2003. He was 76. He was born in Bronx, N.Y., and moved to Arizona in 1984 from Illinois. He was a retired actor and teacher and was an Army veteran of World War II.

He was a member of the Screen Actors Guild, participated in Jewish Community Theatre and worked with disabled veterans.

Survivors include his daughters, Cosette Boyington of Peoria; Aviva Diodado, Chaya Ryan and Diana Molitor, all of Phoenix; son, Michael Weinberg of Phoenix; and seven grandchildren.

Services were held at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to ASCPA, P.O. Box 33334, Phoenix 85067.



Boris Kruchkoff

Boris Kruchkoff, age 93, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away April 27, 2003. He was born in Russia in 1909, living in Milwaukee, Wis. until moving to Phoenix in 1988. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a graduate degree in chemistry.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, daughter, Amy, and grandsons, Jeremy, David, and Ian. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Bonnie. Contributions can be made to Jewish National Fund, 1645 E. Missouri Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85016; 602-277-4800.



Bessie M. Medintz

Bessie M. Medintz, age 93, passed away April 25, 2003 in Phoenix. She was born in New York City and lived most of her life in Chicago before moving to Phoenix.

Survivors include her son Marvin (Percy Angelo) Medintz; daughter Mary (Martin) Roth; sisters Belle (Larry) Jacobson and Esther Kahn; brother Bernard (Betty) Greenwald; grandchildren Karen (Frank) Moskowitz, Donna Roth, Michelle (Edward) Gricius, Michael (Michelle) Medintz and Matthew Medintz; and great-grandchildren Abby, Sarah and Lily Moskowitz.

She was the widow of the late Michael Medintz who passed away in 1971.

Funeral services were held Monday April 28, 2003. Bessie was past president of The Rogers Park Chapter of Women's American ORT in Illinois and the family wishes contributions in her memory to Women's American ORT, 7912 E. Via De Belleza, Scottsdale, AZ 85258. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary.



Harry Schwartz

Harry Schwartz, 92, passed away April 26, 2003. Graveside services were held Monday, April 28, at Green Acres Cemetery.

Mr. Schwartz was born April 10, 1911 in Belaya Tzerkov, Russia. He and his mother traveled by ship to the United States to New York when Harry was nine months old. Harry worked for the U.S. Postal Service while attending college, where he earned Bachelors and Masters degrees in Education. After retiring from the Postal Service he taught Special Education in the New York Public Schools System for 20 years.

He and his wife, Ethel, moved to Arizona 25 years ago. Harry and Ethel were married 47 years before she passed in November of 1984.

He was an active member in the Havurah, Shalom Group and Yiddish Club in Leisure World. Harry was an honorary member of the Holocaust Museum in Washington. He was an avid collector of movie memorabilia and writing instruments, avid theatergoer, voracious reader and historian.

He is survived by sons, Dr. Albert Schwartz (Pam) of Mesa and attorney Arnold Schwartz (Maria) of Los Angeles; nine grandchildren, Pam, Alison, Jack, Karen, Ben, Amanda, Ian, Lindsey, and Brenden; and two great-grandchildren, Dariane and Jaxon.

The family suggests memorials to Banner Hospice, 1325 N. Fiesta Blvd., Gilbert, AZ 85233; and Temple Beth Sholom, 3499 N. Dobson Rd., Chandler, AZ 85224. Arrangements handled by Lakeshore Mortuary.
