ObituariesIsaiah BenjaminIsaiah Benjamin of Glendale died March 24, 2003. He was 93. He was born in Bombay, India, and moved to Arizona in 1980 from Florida. He was a retired sales manager.Survivors include his wife, Seemah Benjamin of Glendale; his daughters, Moselle Benjamin of Phoenix, Esther Eisenstein of Boca Raton, Fla., Sarah Remer of Montreal, and Rebecca Schwartz of Marietta, Ga.; son, Joseph Benjamin of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; sisters, Miriam Benjamin, Rebecca Nashon-Elias and Sarah Benjamin, all of Israel; brothers, Isaac Benjamin of Phoenix and David Benjamin of Israel; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Hannah HarrowHannah Harrow of Phoenix died March 18, 2003. She was 82. She was born in New York City and moved to Arizona in 1989. She was a retired legal secretary.Survivors include her daughter, Roberta Zatkowsky of Scottsdale; son, Barry Harrow of Carmel Valley, Calif.; sister, Betty Reiser of New York City; and two grandchildren. Irving RifeIrving Rife of Toronto died March 18, 2003. He was 93. He was born in Toronto and was a winter visitor to Arizona.He was involved with the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix, Valley of the Sun Jewish Community Center Preschool and United Blood Services. Survivors include his wife, Irene Rife of Toronto; daughters, Minga Roebuck and Reva Garber, both of Toronto; son, Seymour Rife of Scottsdale; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was a member of Beth El Congregation and a member of B'nai B'rith.Survivors include her daughters, Ellen Bulkis of Phoenix and Cathi Sue Sherman of Manalapan, N.J.; and two grandchildren. Herman CohenHerman Cohen of Phoenix died March 22, 2003. He was 99. He was born in St. Louis and moved to Arizona in 1975 from Michigan. He was retired from a dry cleaning business in Detroit. He was a member of B'nai B'rith and of the Phoenix Jewish Community Center Senior Program.Survivors include his son, Murray Cohen of Phoenix; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Florence BaehrFlorence Baehr of Phoenix died March 22, 2003. She was 83. She was born in Philadelphia and moved to Arizona in 1975. Leo BottnerLeo Bottner of Toronto died March 17, 2003. He was 82. He was born in Tarosolov, Poland. He was a Holocaust survivor.Survivors include his wife, Rene Bottner of Toronto; daughter, Marlene Bottner of Toronto; sons, Mel Bottner of Phoenix and Gordon Bottner of Toronto; sister, Chaika Bottner of Israel; brother, David Bottner of Toronto; and two grandchildren. Allen of Scottsdale passed away March 13, 2003 after a courageous battle with leukemia. He was 58. He received his B.S. in Health Science, M.A. in Biostatistics, and Doctor of Optometry at the University of California, Berkeley. He was an avid sailor and utilized these skills as a member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary.He had been teaching math at Mesa Community College and biostatistics at Arizona School of Health Sciences when he became ill. Survivors include his children Michael and Lisa Allen of New York and Janice Kriegel, his high school sweetheart and spiritual spouse. A memorial service was conducted at Temple Emanuel by Rabbi Andrew Straus. Arrangement by Sinai Mortuary. |
