VOSJCC receives 'Heart' awardIn recognition of the Valley of the Sun Jewish Community Center's efforts to equip the center with automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and train its staff to use them, the Rural/Metro Fire Department awarded the VOSJCC the first ever Heart to Heart Award. The VOSJCC is the "first organization to train all of their staff and make it such a high priority," said Ruthanne Gilbert of the Rural/Metro Fire Department. "I can't imagine anything more important than having staff able to save lives." For the past six months, Rural/Metro Public Education Officer Sandy Nygaard trained nearly 100 employees using the American Heart Association's HeartSaver course. The award presentation, and an AED demonstration, took place March 20 at the VOSJCC. "We are thrilled with the dedication shown by the staff and board of the Valley of the Sun Jewish Community Center," Nygaard said. VOSJCC Board member Andrew Schwartz, a distributor for AED manufacturer Philips Medical Systems, donated the defibrillators. |
