Kosher market opens in Scottsdale

A store offering more than 500 kosher-for-Passover products will open March 23 in Scottsdale.
The Passover Pantry, at 10211 N. Scottsdale Road, will be open until Passover begins and, depending on inventory, possibly during Chol Ha-moed (intermediate days of Passover), said supervisor Brandon Budd.
Products will include fresh and frozen meat, cholov Yisroel dairy, baked goods, canned goods, shmurah matzo from Israel, sorbets, pizza and gefilte fish.
The Passover Pantry first opened in 2001, but didn't return the following year due to the difficulty of finding a location to rent for one month, said David Gottlieb, one of the organizers.
The new location is part of Chabad of Scottsdale's expansion, although the store is a separate entity, said Rabbi Yossi Levertov of Chabad of Scottsdale.
After Passover, the store will close for renovation and reopen as a full-service kosher market in the summer, said Budd. Plans include a take-out deli, a full kitchen and catering. There is currently no kosher market in Scottsdale, since Cactus Kosher moved in December 2001 from its location at Hayden and Indian School roads to its warehouse at 5017 S. Central Ave., Phoenix. Phoenix's other full-service kosher market is Segal's, 4818 N. Seventh St.
Passover Pantry hours are 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday.
