'Borscht to Broadway'

Internationally acclaimed performers Soprano Rebecca Somberg and Baritone Cantor Bernard Savitz will be presenting highlights from "Phantom of the Opera" and a journey through comedy, jazz, the music of Israel and Yiddish theater in the program "Borscht to Broadway," 7 p.m. Sunday, March 23, at Har Zion Congregation, 6140 E. Thunderbird Road, Scottsdale.

"Borscht to Broadway" was conceived and arranged by Savitz, and features a "Yiddish-Singing" Elvis, among other surprises. Somberg and Savitz will be joined by synthesizer artist John Rodby, the musical director for Liza Minnelli and Frank Sinatra, and pianist Dr. Ed Byrom, prior Chorus Master for the Tulsa Philharmonic Orchestra. Violinist Coralie Hurst, percussionist Josh Gottry and others round out the performers.

Savitz has recently been appointed at Har Zion Congregation.

An evening of 'radio days'

The Sun City Grand Drama & Comedy Club presents "An Evening of Good Old Radio Days" Monday, March 24, at Temple Beth Shalom, 12202 101st Ave., Sun City.

The evening will recall the glory days of radio, the 1930s and 40s, and will recall the antics of The Bickersons, Fibber McGee and Molly, Jack Benny, Our Miss Brooks and others.

Cocktails and appetizers will be served at 5:30, dinner begins at 6 p.m., and the performance begins at 7:30 p.m.
