Ambulance dedicated in Phoenix
LEISAH NAMM
Managing Editor

Next weekend, community members will have a chance to see an ambulance donated by a Phoenix couple to Israel's Magen David Adom, Israel's sole provider of emergency medical services.
The ambulance dedication weekend, sponsored by Arizona Friends of ARMDI (American Red Magen David for Israel), will begin with a Shabbat service at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 22, at Beth El Congregation, 1118 W. Glendale Ave., Phoenix.
Beth El members Anna and William Koenig, Holocaust survivors and founders of the Phoenix Holocaust Survivor's Association, purchased the ambulance last year and will be honored during the service.
The program will also feature Rabbi Moshe Tutnauer, who will discuss the importance of supporting Israel, and a dessert kiddush. The ambulance will be on display.
A communitywide dedication ceremony will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, March 23, at Temple Chai, 4645 E. Marilyn Road, Phoenix. Congressman John Shadegg will speak.
That same day, a blood drive, coordinated by Temple Chai's Temple Youth group and the Chai Chapter of Hadassah, will be held 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the synagogue. To schedule an appointment, call Hope Bressman, 480-488-9429.
The event will also feature youth choir performances and a chance to tour ambulances from the Phoenix Fire Department and American Ambulance company. Students of The King David School and Pardes Jewish Day Schools will be honored for their fund-raising efforts on behalf of ARMDI. The children raised "several thousand dollars" for medical supplies through bake sales and tzedakah fairs, said Jay Bycer, co-chairman of Arizona Friends of ARMDI.
So far, about $60,000 has been raised for medical supplies, but additional funds are needed, Bycer said.
After the dedication weekend, the ambulance will be shipped to Israel, said Barbra Zemel, co-chairwoman of Arizona Friends of ARMDI.
Call ARMDI, 602-787-2930.
