Defend woman's right to choose

Editor:
I want to compliment Vicki Cabot on her recent commentary ("Choice distilled to its essence," Jewish News, Feb. 14). We live in very scary times, under an administration that has a sanctimonious and holier than thou attitude about choice. I totally agree that we must not allow options to be denied our daughters and granddaughters. But the outlook is pretty grim.

Back in 1972, I was involved with a petition drive to get a pro-choice referendum on the Michigan ballot. Our drive failed, but we were vindicated by Roe vs. Wade the following year.

We must not lose that right now! We need more thoughtful articles like Cabot's widely distributed.

Federation expresses thanks to state officials

Editor:
The Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix and the Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona wish to thank the following Arizona State legislators and officials for attending our annual Legislative Reception on Feb. 12 at the state Capitol.

This reception included leadership from the greater Phoenix and Tucson Jewish communities, making this a statewide opportunity to connect with our legislators. The event allowed members of the Jewish community to meet with legislators, share views and conversations concerning current public policy issues, especially those of particular interest to our community.

We greatly appreciate the participation of these legislators and state officials and look forward to working with them in the future:

Attorney General Terry Goddard, State Treasurer Dave Peterson, Corporation Commissioner Mark Spitzer, Chief Deputy Attorney General Robert D. Myers, Senate President Ken Bennett, Sens. Barbara Leff, Ken Cheuvront, Gabrielle Giffords, Toni Hellon, James Waring, and Reps. Phil Hanson, Joe Hart, Robert Meza, David Bradley, Ted Downing, Peter Hershberger, Phil Lopes, Tom O'Halleran and Wally Straughn.
