Marc Schneier, president of The Foundation for Ethnic Understanding, has been named co-chairman of the Jewish National Fund Essence of Life National Committee.

Gus Ishak, formerly general manager of New York Bagels & Bialys, has been named general manager of the Phoenix Chompie's.

Jess Schwartz Jewish Community High School has received an AVI CHAI marketing grant and an AVI CHAI Judaic Preparatory Track grant. The school plans to improve its marketing campaign to prospective students and donors and begin a Judaic studies track for beginners.

Rhesa Shapiro has been named chairwoman of the newly formed Founders Forum of Hadassah Valley of the Sun. The Forum will recognize and honor Hadassah members who contribute $15,000 or more to Hadassah. Currently, Shapiro serves as the National Hadassah chairwoman of the Western Region Keepers of the Gate program and is a member of the Western Region Area Development Center Team, National Board of Hadassah, the National Honorary Council and the National Fund- raising Division.

The Jewish Theological Seminary will honor 39 members of the rabbinical assembly who have served the Jewish community for 25 years or more on Feb. 12. Honorees include Rabbi Moshe Carmilly-Weinberger, who aided Hungarian refugees during WWII; Rabbi David Teutsch, former president of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College; Rabbi Claudio Kaiser-Blueth, who introduced the Conservative movement to Peru; and Rabbi Sanford Shudnow and Rabbi Arnold Resnicoff, who both served as chaplains in the U.S. Navy.

Jane Gerke of Alegra Print & Imaging was awarded the annual Top International Design Award and the Qwest for Excellence Award for Marketing Collateral for her designs on brochures, advertisements and business cards.
