Harriet "Honey" Yellin has been appointed as concertmaster of The Scottsdale Symphony Orchestra. Yellin has served as associate concert mistress since 1998.

Dawn Vander Kooi, a local executive director, received international recognition for promoting Tempe businesses at the 2002 Ali Lassen's Leads Club annual conference.

Grant Goodman, owner of cement manufacturer Stirling Bridge and sand and gravel company Rockland Materials, recently donated $80,000 to Valley programs that provide Christmas gifts to needy children. Goodman attends Temple Solel.

Dr. Max Dine of Glendale was awarded the Health Care Hero Volunteer award by the Business Journal in recognition of his improvements to local health care services through volunteer efforts. Dine was also recently awarded the Don Aldridge Advocacy Award 2002 from the City of Phoenix for educating the public on mental health issues, lobbying for national, state and local mental health bills and championing mental health causes.

Rabbi Maynard Bell, rabbi emeritus of Temple Solel, was recently installed as president of the Pacific Association of Rabbis during the annual convention in California. Bell was installed by Rabbi Alan Berlin, senior rabbi of Temple Solel.
