Obituaries

Carol Strassels-Shaw

Carol Strassels-Shaw of Scottsdale died Jan. 2, 2003. She was 61. She was born in Youngstown, Ohio, and moved to Arizona from Illinois in 1982. She was a retired saleswoman.

Survivors include her daughters, Shari Healy of Tucson; Alyssa Sheets of Scottsdale; Michelle Shakelford of Mesa; son, Joseph Brown of Phoenix; and four grandchildren.

Services were held at Sinai Mortuary Chapel, with Rabbi Barry Cohen officiating. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix 85014 and American Cancer Society, 2929 E. Thomas Road, Phoenix 85016.



Roslyn Hoffman

Roslyn Hoffman of Phoenix died Jan. 7, 2003. She was 83. She was born in Cleveland and moved to Arizona in 1954.

She was a retired public school teacher from Richard E. Miller School. She was a published author for the Journal in Phoenix.

Survivors include her sister, Barbara Hoffman Ross of Phoenix.

Private services were held. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to a no-kill animal shelter.



Charlotte Kaplan

Charlotte Kaplan of Scottsdale died Jan. 5, 2003. She was 79. She was born in Chicago and moved to Arizona in 1960.

She was a homemaker and a former member of Har Zion Sisterhood.

Survivors include her son, Steve Kaplan of Tempe; brother, Chester Radis of Chicago; and four grandchildren.

Services were held at Green Acres Cemetery, with Rabbi Barton Lee officiating. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Alzheimer's Association, 1028 E. McDowell Road, Phoenix 85006.



Robert Haspel

Robert Haspel of Scottsdale died Dec. 31, 2002. He was 71. He was born in New York City and moved to Arizona in 1976. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. He was a member of Jewish War Veterans.

Survivors include his wife, Audrey; daughter, Alyssa Haspel-Siegel of Manchester, Conn.; and brother, Neil Haspel of Northridge, Calif.

Services were held at Paradise Memorial Gardens. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary.
