More book reviews, please

Editor:
As always, I enjoyed reading the online version of the paper this week. I especially enjoyed the article about the film festivals ("Do film festivals build Jewish identity?" Jewish News, Jan. 3) and am looking forward to attending, for the fourth or fifth year in a row, the festival here in Tucson at the Jewish Community Center later this month.

I'm just writing to request that you publish more book reviews. I love both the reviews of adult books and children's books - the latter are useful to me in choosing gifts for my granddaughters.

And I'd like to suggest two books for review by a wonderful and much underappreciated Jewish writer, Merrill Joan Gerber: "Anna in Chains" and "Botticelli Blue Skies." I think your readers would enjoy both books. I certainly did.

Lieberman cures political cynic

Editor:
As a Democrat who has been active in Arizona politics for awhile, I want to commend you on your commentary, "Prove it to the People," (Jewish News, Jan. 3) regarding Sen. Joseph Lieberman. (D-Conn.) You hit the nail on the head.

And, as someone who is constantly battling cynicism, especially when it comes to politics, I have been considering whether to support Sen. Lieberman or one of the other fine candidates running to replace a president who I believe has lived up to low expectations.

While Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) or Sen. John Edwards (D-N.C.) might have a better chance against President Bush, Sen. Lieberman is closer to my political ideology, as well as my theology. And he has shown that he is qualified to be president, both in the Senate and in the 2000 presidential campaign.

The anti-cynic in me wins out; I will be helping Sen. Lieberman battle the cynics and "prove it to the people" in Arizona. Down with cynicism. Go, Joe, go!
