Music an alternative to Super Bowl

Musician Rick Recht will perform 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, at Temple Emanuel of Tempe, 5801 S. Rural Road, Tempe.

Recht has released two multimedia compact discs and has performed around the world. His music blends pop and radio-friendly melodies with Hebrew, Jewish text and messages of social responsibility.

Tickets are $10 adults, $8 BBYO, TETY, USY and Hillel members, $5 children 12 and under. Call 480-838-1414. In addition, a dinner will be held pre-show at 5:30 p.m., catered by Niro's Gyros. 'The Joys of Yiddish'

"Un Az Der Rebbe Singt," The Joys of Yiddish, will be presented 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, at Temple Beth Israel, 10460 N. 56th St., Scottsdale. The program will feature Rabbi Emeritus Albert Plotkin in concert with Cantor Mikhal Shiff-Matter. Admission is $10. Call 480-951-0323.



Percussionist meets with Brandeis group

Phoenix Symphony Principal Percussion Bill Wanser, a member of the symphony since 1975, will demonstrate instruments from his vast collection, discuss his role in the orchestra and perform with pianist Larry Loeber 1-2:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, at Palo Cristi Church, 3535 E.
