Jews invited to join the party

Editor:
Rabbi Joshua Plaut, Executive Director of the Center for Jewish History in New York, said of American Jews, "They're not invited to the big Christmas Party." ("Jews answer age-old query: What to do at Christmastime?" Jewish News, Dec. 20) Perhaps American Jews haven't recognized their invitation. Almost every church advertises Christmas concerts, pageants, boutiques and services that are open to the public and usually free of charge. Pastors and members alike would be delighted to welcome those of the Jewish community. Join the party!

Thank God for America where we can still feel free to attend such events irrespective of our race, background or ancestral heritage. We, of all people, have the most opportunities to understand better how others do things.

If anyone missed an opportunity this Christmas, don't feel bad. Easter's coming!

Question financial aid to tyrants, not Israel

Editor:
The notion that supporting and giving aid to Israel is somehow wasteful spending is nonsense. America gives to Israel, a democracy, $3 billion in aid. Israel in turn watches the most dangerous region in the entire world, a region that also has an important commodity that our country seems to use a lot of.

If you remove our aid and friendship with Israel, our country would probably have to spend a minimum of $50 billion a year to have a military and intelligence presence in the Middle East. I think America is getting a great deal with its aid to our ally and friend Israel.

Why does our aid and support to Israel always seem to be an issue with some people? Why is our financial aid to tyrants and terrorist nations rarely talked about? Leave Israel our friend and fellow democracy, alone.

Let's talk about the non-democratic totalitarian dictators that seek to destroy our country. Why don't you mention them, and why is our financial aid to these countries not an issue?
