David Sapoznikow & Karen Smelkinson

Karen Smelkinson of La Costa, Calif., and David Sapoznikow of Mountain View, Calif., announce their engagement.

Parents of the couple are Elaine and Paul Smelkinson of Phoenix; and Sharona and Jorge Sapoznikow of Rockville, Md.

The bride-to-be earned a bachelor's degree in anthropology from Stanford University. She is president of Seed Philanthropy Consulting, LLC.

The groom-to-be earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Stanford University and a master's degree in economics from the University of California, Berkley. He is a research manager for Cheskin, a Northern California consulting firm.

A December 2003 wedding is planned.
