Amie Lynn Kubaska, daughter of Carol Kubaska of Mesa and Ron Kubaska of Lafayette, Colo., became a bat mitzvah Nov. 30, 2002, at Temple Beth Sholom.

Grandparents are Sally and Sy Gordon of Sun Lakes; and Bernard Weinstein of Avondale, La.

Amie attends Brimhall Junior High School. Her hobbies include playing the violin and reading.

For her mitzvah project, Amie raised money to help a 10-year-old leukemia patient get a bone marrow transplant.



Benjamin Lewis Goodman, son of Jodi and Dean Goodman of Scottsdale, will become a bar mitzvah Dec. 21, 2002, at Temple Chai.

Grandparents are Selma Kreitman of Phoenix; Phyllis Goodman of Tucson; the late Leon Goodman; and the late Max Kreitman.

Benjamin attends Desert Canyon Middle School. His hobbies include playing baseball and golf.

For his mitzvah project, Benjamin helped assemble Hanukkah baskets and Israeli products. He also donated stuffed animals to needy children.



Theresa Nicole Small, daughter of Elizabeth and Michael Small of Scottsdale, will become a bat mitzvah Dec. 21, 2002, at Temple Chai.

Grandparents are Clara Small and Judy Hulsman, both of Louisville, Ky.

Great-grandparent is Lucille Gnau of Louisville, Ky.

Theresa attends Desert Shadows Middle School. Her hobbies include drawing, writing, reading and spending time with friends.

For her mitzvah project, Nicole collected art supplies for a needy school and visited nursing homes with her two dogs.



Jeremy Randall Dorn, son of Lorraine and David Dorn of Scottsdale, will become a bar mitzvah Dec. 21, 2002, at Temple Solel.

Grandparents are Lillian and Abe Dorn of Wyndmoor, Pa.; Meta Cooper of Philadelphia; and the late Murray Cooper.

Jeremy attends Mountainside Middle School. His hobbies include playing the piano and basketball.

For his mitzvah project, Jeremy played the piano in a nursing home.



Ari Jordan Sercus, son of Stacy and Barry Sercus of Phoenix, will become a bar mitzvah Dec. 21, 2002, at Temple Emanuel.

Grandparents are Deanna Kay and Jerry Glugatch of Woodland Hills, Calif.; Faith Sercus of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; Marshall Sercus of Venice, Fla.; and the late Eli Kay.

Great-grandparents are Edith Kay of West Hartford, Conn.; Bertha Kay of Bronx, N.Y.; Sylvia Birdy of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; the late Joseph Kay; the late Jack Kay; and the late Leo Birdy.

Ari attends Altadena Middle School. His hobbies include playing video games and visiting with family.



Rachel Marche Shanker, daughter of Tamera and Howard Shanker of Chandler, will become a bat mitzvah Dec. 21, 2002, at Temple Emanuel.

Grandparents are Beatriz and Walter Crites of Prescott Valley; George Shanker of Chandler; and the late Rosalind Shanker.

Rachel attends Kyrene Middle School. Her hobbies include gymnastics, cheerleading and participating in the National Junior Honor Society.

For her mitzvah project, Rachel will donate 3 percent of her reception cost to Mazon Hunger Relief and will donate leftover food from the reception to a domestic violence shelter.



Ilan Daniel Slovin, son of Rosalyn and Martin Slovin of Phoenix, will become a bar mitzvah Dec. 21, 2002, at Beth El Congregation.

Grandparents are Stella and Oscar Felthun and Dolly and Abe Slovin, all of Cape Town, South Africa.

Ilan attends Madison Meadows Middle School.

For his mitzvah project, Ilan purchased and collected sporting goods for Crisis Nursery.
