Seminar teaches relationship skills

Understanding the differences between men and women and having the ability to laugh at those differences are important elements of a successful relationship.

Advice such as this will be dispensed at "Pamensky Live," a seminar for singles and couples about relationships, 7:30-9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at the Kerr Cultural Center.

"Relationships are a skill, not a happening," says featured presenter Rabbi Aryeh Pamensky. "You don't find a person that you gel with and automatically have a good relationship. You can have a good relationship with a person who's not the right person and you can have a terrible relationship with the person who is the right person."

To assist with developing these skills, Pamensky, who's been presenting relationship seminars for six years, will present "a model of relationship between a man and a woman that's really based on a 3,500-year-old secret from Judaism."

"It's a model of relationships that is unbelievably relevant for today," he said.

"Most people go into relationships today with the attitude that they are going to figure it out as they go along," he said. But they have nothing to model it after. "What are we trying to achieve in this relationship? What is it, how does it work? ... That's what we're going to be talking about."

He will also talk about the differences between men and women, examine each person's role and discuss other relationship tools.

"It's really humorous and it's fun and we have a good time," he said.

Pamensky lives in Toronto with his wife of 12 years and their six children and has been teaching personal development programs and practicing marriage counseling for nine years.

He was ordained as a rabbi in 1992 and has created "Vision Quest," a workbook designed to help people discover their purpose in life and has developed an "Amazing Marriage" seminar.

"Pamensky Live" is sponsored by Aish Hatorah Scottsdale Center for Jewish Discovery, the Phoenix Community Kollel and The Dana Cheryl Beitscher Charitable Foundation.
