Kol Ami rabbi to retireThe founding rabbi of Temple Kol Ami in Scottsdale has announced that he will retire in May 2004.Rabbi B. Charles Herring started with the Reform congregation in 1989 and has given an 18-month notice because "it is an appropriate amount of time to allow a congregation to do a proper search for a successor," he said. In a Nov. 1 letter to con-gregants, Herring said he and his wife Barbara plan to remain Kol Ami members after retirement. A 14-member selection committee, chaired by Brad May, a member of the congregation, has formed and the search is underway with the Central Conference of American Rabbis, said Steve Weitzenkorn, temple president. The CCAR is the placement bureau for the Union of American Hebrew Congregations. |
