JNF honors local couple with 'Tree of Life' award

The Jewish National Fund will present its Tree of Life Award to Marlene and Lanny Lahr of Phoenix at a ceremony to be held Dec. 8 at the Scottsdale Hilton Resort & Villas.

The award is given to individuals for outstanding community involvement, dedication to the Israel Friends and devotion to the peace and betterment of man.

The Lahrs are being honored for their contributions to the local Jewish community, including their commitment to building a new Jewish Community Campus in Scottsdale.

Lanny Lahr previously served as president of the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix and of the Jewish Community Center. He and Marlene participate in a variety of service organizations, including the United Way, the Council for Jews with Special Needs, the Hillel Jewish Student Center at Arizona State University, Hospice of the Valley and the Herberger Theater.

"Both Lanny and Marlene are clearly dedicated to the Jewish community and the Valley as a whole, and are most worthy of this award," said Leatrice Nach, chairwoman for the Tree of Life Award dinner.

The event will include dinner, a live auction and the award presentation. Tickets can be purchased for $225. Proceeds will benefit JNF water conservation projects in Israel. Call 602-277-4800.
