Hillel award open for applications

The Joan Frazer Memorial Award in the Arts at Hillel is accepting applications for the 2002/2003 school year. It is designed to support Jewish Arizona State University students who are interested or involved in the arts to complete a project and share their work with Hillel and the Jewish community.

Examples of projects include poetry with a Jewish theme, a one-act play in which Judaism or Jewish culture is explored, sculpture depicting a Jewish theme, a photographic exploration of a Jewish experience, and more. Recipients receive up to $1,500 per project; projects must be completed by Feb. 1.

Submit proposals to The Joan Frazer Memorial Award in the Arts at Hillel, 1012 S. Mill Ave., Tempe 85281.



Brandeis study group welcomes violinists

Brandeis University Wo-men's Music Study Group is holding the first of four programs featuring musicians of The Phoenix Symphony. Their first guests are the premier violinists of the orchestra, Concertmaster Borivoj Martinic-Jercic and his wife, Associate Concertmaster Magdalena Martinic-Jercic, 1-2:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at Palo Cristi Church, 3535 E. Lincoln Drive, Paradise Valley. They will perform and discuss their backgrounds and their leadership roles in the orchestra.

Free to registered members of the Music Study Group, $3 for other members of the Brandeis University National Womens' Committee and $5 for nonmembers, payable at the door. Call Roz Fischer at 602-971-8004.



Comedian to perform at Temple Beth Shalom

The Annual Comedy Show of Temple Beth Shalom presents Keith Barany 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, at the temple, 12202 101st Ave., Sun City. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12.50 at the door.

Barany has written material for "Seinfeld" and "Politically Incorrect" and has appeared with Bob Hope, Jerry Seinfeld, Richard Belzer, Elaine Boosler, Joan Rivers and many others. Call 623-977-3240.
