Condemn talk-show host SandersEditor:For those who believe that anti-Semitic talk is mainly the province of the Arab and Muslim world, wake up. My son Adam recently informed me of Steven Sanders, who hosts a daily show at 2 p.m. on talk radio KFNX, AM1100. He calls his show "World News and Commentary," but at least 90 percent of his talk concerns Jews and Israel. I encourage all Jews and supporters of Israel to listen in to Sanders' show. Like my son, you too may be in for a shock. Not only is Sanders not enamored of Jews or, more accurately, Zionists, he also rails against Christians like Jerry Falwell. He labels Falwell a "Christian Zionist" who profits by taking groups of his followers to Israel. Rather than trying to stifle voices such as Sanders it might be better for us to listen to the ancient yet re-awakened hatred toward Jews (that is) harbored in the depths of some men and women in every generation. Howard Reuben Phoenix Get to know ASU's presidentEditor:Some in the Jewish community have expressed disappointment with Arizona State University President Michael Crow's decision not to sign the petition calling for an "intimidation-free campus." I am not one of them. For the record, I serve as the chairman of the Anti-Defamation League Society of Fellows and I am chairman of the ASU Alumni Association. Bill Straus, regional director of the ADL, was correctly quoted, expressing the need to sit with Crow and the Valley's Jewish leaders to better understand the reason for the decision ("Crow faces petition fallout," Jewish News, Oct. 11). When they do, they will meet an intelligent, visionary leader who shares our values of education, integrity, family and a commitment to tolerance. They will discover the proposed statement was very narrow and actually signed by very few college and university presidents in the nation. ASU's anti-harassment policy is comprehensive and focused, and reflects a no-nonsense approach to dealing with employee and student harassment. Let's all work to get acquainted with our new ASU president and his vision of ASU as the "New American University," one that is large enough to take care of all our kids, one that emphasizes excellence in teaching, learning and research, and a commitment to a hate-free community.
