People on the moveThe Arizona Lottery will be the title sponsor for the upcoming Jerry J. Wisotsky Torch of Liberty dinner event for the Arizona Region of the Anti-Defamation League. The dinner, to be held Oct. 24, will honor Bill Post of APS with ADL's prestigious National Americanism Award.Geula Simon of Phoenix designs, creates and sells ketubahs, or Jewish marriage contracts, and blessings for births, bar/bat mitzvah and graduations. Simon, originally from Morocco, immigrated to Israel in the 1950s and studied art at Haifa University. She does Hebrew and English calligraphy and designs using ink on parchment paper, oil paintings on canvas and cross-stitch pictures. Call 602-864-9274. Bonner David Galleries, directed by Clark Olson and Christi Manuelito, will open at 7040 E. Main St., Scottsdale. Displayed arts include the work of Ron Burns, Charles Gilliam, Kathrine Lemke Waster and James Larson. The gallery's grand opening will be held Nov. 7-9. Howard and Kay Segal have recently acquired B-UV-FREE, LLC, a family-owned Arizona business specializing in protective wear for children exposed to the sun's damaging UV rays. The Internet-based business is located at www.buvfreeclothing.com. Cornelis Hollander will hold "Brews and Jewels" 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the gallery, 4151 N. Marshall Way, Scottsdale. Diamond and gemstone collections designed by Hollander will be displayed in the "Octoberfest" atmosphere. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Boys & Girls Club of Scottsdale. Barbara Barr Hood has been named president of the Assistance League of Phoenix, an all-volunteer organization dedicated to helping citizens through community-wide projects. Other new members are Susan Thomas, president-elect; Ann Johns, vice president of membership; Kay Van Sant, vice president of philanthropic projects; and Rose Chambers, vice president of the thrift shop. |
