ObituariesEsther DryEsther "Tweetie" Dry of Phoenix died Oct. 7, 2002. She was 81. She was born in Chicago and moved to Arizona in 1991. She was a homemaker.Survivors include her daughter, Nancy of Cary, Ill.; son, Kenneth of Scottsdale; and four grandchildren. Services were held at Temple Solel Chapel, with Rabbi Alan Berlin officiating. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Jewish United Fund of Chicago, 1 South Franklin St., Chicago, IL 60606. Lawrence MelskyLawrence Melsky of Scottsdale died Oct. 7, 2002. He was 65. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Arizona in 1976. He was an owner of several small businesses. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was awarded two Purple Hearts. He was an accomplished saxophone player.Survivors include his wife, Rena; daughters, Rhona of Bayonne, N.J., Michelle Grzybek of Goldsboro, N.C., and Sharon Kealona of Scottsdale; son, Richard of Little Silver, N.J.; and two grandchildren. Services were held at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, with Rabbi Mark J. Bisman officiating. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary. He had been a resident at Kivel Campus of Care since moving to Phoenix from Chicago in 1989. He was a mensch. Harold is survived by his companion, Sarah Gerhert, Phoenix; his brother and sister-in-law, Allen and Norma Banen, Fountain Hills; his nephew, Steven Banen, and niece, Renee Sacco, both of Scottsdale, and their families.Louis E. BrodianLouis E. Brodian, age 79, passed away in Scottsdale, October 5, 2002. He was born in Newark, N.J. and moved to the Valley 26 years ago. He was the founder and former owner of Arizona Auto Trim Company which he operated for 25 years in Phoenix, a member of Temple Chai, a Mason, and pilot in the Civil Air Patrol when he was a resident of New Jersey.Survivors include his wife Miriam, son Craig (Patricia) Brodian, daughter Stacey (Mark) Chulew, sister Augusta Dorfman, and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday, October 7th in Sinai Mortuary Chapel in Phoenix. Contributions in his memory are requested to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. He was born in Newark, N.J. and moved to the Valley 30 years ago from Maryland. He was a retired public accountant, licensed to appear before the I.R.S., a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner, past president of Jewish Free Loan Association, past president and co-founder of the Phoenix Chapter of Parents of North American Israelis, past commander of Jewish War Veterans, served on the Board of Directors of Friendly House, and a member of Temple Chai.Survivors include his wife Helen; sons Barry (Patricia) Kriegsfeld, Steven (Harriet) Kriegsfeld, Jonathan (Ofra) Axelrod; daughters Dianne (Daniel) Hendricks, Stephanie (Tzion) Shlomi, Gwenn Axelrod; and eight grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday, Oct 6th in Sinai Mortuary Chapel in Phoenix. Contributions in his memory are requested to Tzedakah Fund, P.O. Lois WeilLois Weil, age 66, died September 20th, 2002, in Hollywood, Fla. Mrs. Weil was born Lois Rosenthal on February 10th, 1936 in Brooklyn, N.Y. Mrs. Weil was a devoted wife, wonderful mother and devoted grandmother. She was a well-known travel agent for many years in the south Florida area.She is survived by her sons, Andrew Weinberg of Weston, Fla., Aaron Weinberg of Weston, Fla., and Fredric Fial of Scottsdale; her beloved granddaughter, Heather Fial, of Scottsdale; and her brother, Alan Rosenthal, of Northridge, Calif. The funeral and interment occurred on September 24, 2002, at the New Cedar Park Cemetery in Oradell, N.J. |
