The King David School begins campaign

The King David School has launched a $6.5 million campaign for construction of a facility at the Ina Levine Jewish Community Campus.
Art Paikowsky, former executive vice president of the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix, will serve as a consultant on the project, managing the capital campaign.
"We know of Art's abilities and Art's talents, so we have no doubt we'll be reaching our goal and we'll be building our (facility). These are exciting times for the school and I believe for the community," said Esther Feuerberg, head of school.
The 35,000-square-foot facility was designed by The Orcutt/Winslow Partnership and is expected to be complete for the opening of the 2004-2005 school year. The facility will have a capacity of 250 students and plans are for the building to include computer and science labs, a library, music and art rooms and an indoor/outdoor lunch area.
"We're going to have a wonderful chapel that will open into a multi-purpose room with state-of-the-art design. ... One of the shining stars of the facility will be the outdoor amphitheater for services and assemblies, all in a very secure and contained environment," said Beverly Rubenstein, president of the KDS board of directors.
Rubenstein said a great deal of effort has gone into planning the facility.
"We've researched other Jewish day schools and we've taken the best that they had," she explained. "We listened to what they said they would have done differently and we really used that information to come up with this design."
Feuerberg said construction will begin once pledges to the campaign reach $3 million - a goal the school hopes to achieve within a few months.
"We are so excited because this is now reality. Up until now it was a dream," she said.
KDS currently serves 160 students in grades kindergarten-eighth and is housed at Temple Beth Israel in Scottsdale.
