Book fair features renowned author

The Valley of the Sun Jewish Community Center will feature acclaimed author and public speaker Rabbi Joseph Telushkin as the keynote speaker at the kickoff event for the organization's Jewish Book Fair, to be held 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, at 12701 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale.

"We are highly honored to have Rabbi Telushkin with us for this auspicious occasion," said Bob Silver, JCC chairman. "His visit is certainly appropriate for the first major event in our new home."

Telushkin will introduce his latest book, "The Golden Land: The Story of the Jewish Migrations to America." Telushkin is also the author of "Jewish Literacy: The Most Important Things to Know About the Jewish Religion, Its People, and Its History," the top selling book on Judaism of the past two decades. His 1997 novel, "Eye for an Eye," became the basis for a story line on the ABC series "The Practice." Telushkin was also named as one of the 50 best speakers in the country by "Talk Magazine."

The book fair will continue through Nov. 15. Other events include author appearances, book signings and a book sale.

The event featuring Telushkin is free of charge to JCC members. For nonmembers, cost is $20.

Series tickets are $36 for members and $45 for nonmembers. Individual tickets are also available.

The event follows the VOSJCC's 59th annual meeting, which starts at 6:30 p.m. The entire community is invited.
