'Musical tea'

Cantor Marc Philippe of Beth El Congregation is holding a "Musical Tea" 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, at Beth El, 1118 W. Glendale Ave., Phoenix.

The recital has a "Chanson Francaise" theme and will include French music. Donation is $5.

Writing contest for young adults

The 13th annual David Dornstein Memorial Creative Writing Contest for Young Adult Writers, sponsored by the Coalition for the Advancement of Jewish Education, is accepting short story submissions through Dec. 31. Authors ages 18-35 can submit a typed, double-spaced manuscript of no more than 5,000 words on a Jewish topic.

Up to three winners will be selected and will receive cash prizes. Winning stories will be published consecutively in CAJE's journal, "Jewish Education News." Judging will take place from Feb. 1-May 31.
