Book endows future of Prescott Jewish life

An "Endowment Book of Life" was introduced to members of Prescott's Temple B'rith Shalom during an Aug. 25 brunch.

The purpose of this project, sponsored by the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Prescott, is to perpetuate Jewish life into the future. The individuals who sign the book make a commitment that either during their lifetime or through a bequest, a portion of their estate will remain as a legacy for the community, endowing the future of Jewish life in the Prescott region.

The commitment does not specify a particular sum of money, method or time that the signer will act, but is a moral commitment to do what one can to leave something permanent for future generations, according to a press release.

Each signer will contribute a brief personal history or statement that will be inscribed in the Endowment Book of Life by a calligrapher.

The book will be maintained at the temple so that future generations will learn something about the people that helped build and perpetuate the region's Jewish community.

So far, 43 signers have signed the book, said Harold Greenberg, foundation president.
