People on the moveMary Jane McClain will be presented with the Hope Award from the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation, Jim L. Walker Arizona Chapter, at the organization's inaugural Hope Award Dinner at the Camelback Inn on Nov. 1. The award is presented in recognition of McClain's efforts to cope with MG, as well as help others triumph over the disease.Andrea Schulte has been named activities director of Sierra Pointe, a rental retirement community in Scottsdale. Schulte will be responsible for daily coordination and implementation of resident activities. Lorna Jean King, founding director of the Children's Center for Neurodevelopmental Studies, has abandoned retirement in favor of initiating fund-raising activities to expand the center's Glendale campus. The center provides a state-certified school for autistic and developmentally delayed children. At One Yoga has expanded and improved its Phoenix studio, including a full boutique, massage therapy, seminars and the opportunity to attend yoga retreats. The company will hold a preview party Oct. 9 at the studio, 3153 E. Lincoln Drive. Neil Alden, a director and shareholder with Sanders & Parks law firm, will become a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers Oct. 19 at the Waldorf Astoria. Alden practices in the areas of general civil trial law and professional malpractice defense. Debbie Waitkus of Golf for a Cause has been selected to be a speaker/panelist for the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Fla., in January. The topic will be "Growing Your Female Customers and How to Keep them in the Game." Rabbi Gerald Kane of Temple Beth El in Las Cruces, N.M., has been invited to serve as guest chaplain for the United States Senate and House of Representatives at the Capitol building in Washington, D.C. The invitation was extended by Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.) and Rep. Joe Skeen (R-N.M.). Kane served as the director of the Jewish Education Council in Phoenix from 1975-1983. Denise Haney, president of Newport Furnishings, was elected to the executive committee of the Phoenix Metropolitan chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners. Haney will work with the board of directors to further the objectives of the organization. Furniture Affair, the model home furniture outlet, has moved to 15602 N. Seventh St., Phoenix. Arizona State University adjunct professor Bruce Meyerson has been installed as chairman of the dispute resolution section of The American Bar Association. The section provides members and the public with educational programs, technical assistance and publications to promote excellence in the provision of dispute resolution services. City Hall, an upscale steakhouse and entertainment lounge, has opened at 6991 E. Camelback Road, Scottsdale. The restaurant is owned by Mark Drinkwater and Mike Mastro and the Mastro Group. The lounge commemorates Herb Drink-water, former mayor of Scottsdale. |
