ObituariesJoan GoldstineJoan Goldstine of Phoenix died Sept. 18, 2002. She was 82. She was born in Chicago and moved to Arizona in 1946. She was a homemaker.Survivors include her husband, Jerry; daughters, Penny Cohen and Marti Adamany, both of Phoenix; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Services were held at Greenwood Memory Lawn Chapel, with Rabbi Martin Scharf officiating. Sidney BerkowitzSidney Berkowitz of Scottsdale died Sept. 21, 2002. He was 86. He was born in Manhattan, N.Y., and moved to Arizona from New Jersey in 1987. He was a retired proprietor of retail establishments.Survivors include his daughters, Gayle Djavadi of Phoenix and Barbara Shotlander of Hillsborough, N.J.; son, Bruce of West Hills, Calif.; and six grandchildren. Services were held at Paradise Memorial Gardens, with Rabbi Peter Levi officiating. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Alzheimer's Association, 1028 E. McDowell Road, Phoenix 85006. Elliot HorneElliot Horne, age 71, of Paradise Valley. Born on August 17, 1931 in New York, died September 22, 2002. Survived by Joan, his loving wife of 47 years. Wonderful and fun dad of Gina Bernbaum (Paul) of Paradise Valley, Michael Horne (Jan) of Gilbert, and Karyn Klausner of Scottsdale. Adored grandpa of Jordan, Dylan, Marnie, Sophie (aka Murphy) and Ethan Bernbaum; Mackenzie, Alec and Eli Horne; and Rachel Klausner. Caring son of Laura Schwartz. Beloved brother of Robyn Silverberg and brother-in-law and childhood best friend of Bob Silverberg. Also survived by his eight grand-dogs: Charlene, Duke, Eddie, Henry, Jake, Mickey, Mozart and Sawyer.Always looking for ways to contribute to the community, Elliot taught high school for many years, served as a volunteer firefighter and as an auxiliary police officer in New York. When he fulfilled a longtime dream by moving his family to Arizona in 1978, he continued to be a supportive and involved citizen in his new home state. With his wide variety of interests and abilities, he was a true Renaissance Man. He taught at Scottsdale Community College, became a member of the Sheriff's Posse, a Volunteer at the Phoenix Zoo and a Hearing Officer for the Town of Paradise Valley. Graveside services were held at Green Acres Cemetery on Tuesday, September 24. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E.
