KDS marks student, staff growthThe King David School began the fall semester with notable additions to the student body and seven new faculty members. The school welcomed 157 students this year, a result of a 23-student enrollment increase. The majority of new students are in kindergarten-fifth grades, but the middle school also has welcomed new students. "We are bursting at the seams, and of course this is a good problem to have," says Esther Feuerberg, head of school. "However, we have had to find creative means of making room for everyone." The school not only has to make room for a larger student body, but for new faculty members as well. New administrative faculty members are Avi Marcovitz and Donna Troisi. Marcovitz has taken the position of middle school principal and Judaic coordinator. Originally from Toronto, Marcovitz earned a bachelor's degree in Judaic Studies at the University of Wisconsin, a master's degree in administration education at Nova Southeastern University and is currently working on a doctorate degree in organizational leadership. He was formerly the dean of students at the Samuel Scheck Community Day School in Florida. Troisi, a well-known member of the local Jewish community, has been named assistant principal for grades kindergarten-5. Troisi has more than 20 years of teaching experience, a master's degree in education from Arizona State University and is currently enrolled in a master's degree distance learning program in Judaic studies at Spartus College in Chicago. "These two young people bring an energy and a vitality that is a perfect match for our growing school," says Feuerberg. Other new additions to the KDS staff include Charles Pohlhaus and Dana Bass, middle school teachers; Mona Deckter, fifth grade teacher; Ruth Meyer, kindergarten teacher; and Karen Sacks, academic specialist. KDS, currently located on the campus of Temple Beth Israel, plans to relocate to a new building on the grounds of the Ina Levine Community Campus following the completion of a capital campaign. |
