Fear won't stop us

Editor:
Thank you for informing us about the Israel study plans of Arielle Zupnick and Synthia Wills ("Teens drawn to Israel," Jewish News, Aug. 9). To the girls and their parents, I say, "Bravo!" They have shown to their families, friends and community that fear will not keep them from following their heart.

Israel is the soul of the Jewish people; we must support her and visit there, especially now. Thank you, Arielle and Synthia, for leading by example. We won't be far behind you, as we are planning on going on a family mission in December.

Ahmad represents Muslim minority

Editor:
Make no mistake, Marwan Ahmad does not represent a majority of Muslims in the Valley. It is not clear who, if anyone, his Multicultural Yellow Pages represents ("Another missed opportunity," Jewish News, Aug. 2). The directory is produced by him and distributed freely without an identifiable following or a named organization of any kind.

He only represents a vocal minority who exploit Islam. He has simply co-opted his financially supportive advertisers who may do well to reflect upon the political baggage of their association. He has also exploited a Valley Muslim community that has yet to marshal its public resources to present alternative mainstream cultural and religious publications.

Hopefully, public attention to Mr. Ahmad's misrepresentations and fringe opinions will stimulate the silent majority of the Valley Muslim community to work harder at bringing attention to the fact that scores of Valley Muslims do recognize Israel and associate personally with our Jewish brothers and sisters.
