2003 directory spotlights growth

STAFF REPORT
A photo of the architecturally striking Ina Levine Jewish Community Campus in Scottsdale punctuates the cover of Jewish News' Community Directory 2003, being mailed to subscribers next week.

"To live Judaism as a civilization is not only to pray as a Jew but to work and to play as a Jew," a quotation from Rabbi Mordecai M. Kaplan, accompanies the photo and alludes to one of the functions of the campus.

Community growth is the theme of the 14th annual edition of the directory, according to Jewish News Assistant Editor Leisah Namm, who edited the directory.

The $31 million dollar campus, at Scottsdale Road and Sweetwater Avenue, is being readied for occupancy by several community agencies later this month.

"However, the hundreds of resources listed in the directory from all areas of the Valley make it clear that the Jewish community's evolution extends well beyond the campus," said Namm.

Listings in the year-round resource guide are arranged in easy-to-navigate categories: newcomer information; religious life; community life; education; kids and teens; lifecycle; seniors; health and fitness; celebrations; arts, culture and Judaica; Israel and abroad; and merchandise and services.

Interspersed throughout the four-color, magazine-format directory are photographs submitted by Jewish News readers.

Each Jewish News subscriber household can expect to receive a copy of the directory the week of Sept. 9, Namm said.

Copies also will be mailed to every new subscriber throughout the year and will be available on some newsstands, at $6, and at selected communitywide events.

For information on bulk purchases, call Marilyn Goldman, at 602-870-9470, ext. 226.
