High Holiday Services

Selichot services with coffee and dessert

Temple Chai will hold Selichot services Saturday, Aug. 31, at the synagogue, 4645 E. Marilyn Road, Phoenix. The event will begin at 8 p.m. with coffee and dessert, followed by the Sabbath Havdalah service at 9 p.m. The evening will conclude with a traditional Selichot service, including music, prayers of repentance and seeking forgiveness. Temple Chai will also hold second day Rosh Hashana services for the entire community 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, at the synagogue. The event includes a light brunch.

Aish Hatorah beginner services

Aish Hatorah High Holiday beginner services will be held at the Scottsdale Pima Inn, 7330 N. Pima Road. The service features substantial portions in English, explanations of each service's key prayers and question and answer segments. Cost is $50 for Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur package, which includes a dinner, kiddush and a break-the-fast meal.

Sun Lakes Selichot services

The Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation will hold a Selichot service 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, at the Sun Lakes Chapel, 9240 E. Sun Lakes Blvd., Sun Lakes. An ice cream social will follow the service. Rosh Hashana services will be held 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, and 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at the chapel. Kol Nidre services will be held 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, followed by Yom Kippur services 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16. A break-the-fast dinner will be held following services 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, at the Oakwood Country Club, 9647 E. EJ Robson Blvd., Sun Lakes. Services will be conducted by Rabbi Zev Wellins.

Cost is $18 or $9 for children ages 6-12.

High Holidays at Westworld

Desert Foothills Jewish Community Association will hold High Holiday services, officiated by Rabbi Barry Cohen, at Monterra at Westworld, 16601 N. Pima Road, Scottsdale. Rosh Hashana services will be held 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, and 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7. Yom Kippur services will be held 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, and 10 a.m., 4 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16. Closing services will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Contribution is $85. Children under 18 and students can attend for free.

Beth El welcomes nonmembers

Beth El Congregation will offer nonmember High Holiday tickets to the Phoenix community. Services will be held in the Shapiro Sanctuary of Beth El, located at 1118 W. Glendale Ave., Phoenix. Preschool and family services will also be held at the synagogue. Rabbi Moshe Tutnauer and Cantor Marc Philippe will officiate.

Beth-Ami and Kivel join for holidays

Temple Beth-Ami will join forces with Kivel Campus of Care to offer High Holiday services. Services will be led by Rabbi Scharf at the Kivel Campus, located at 3020 N. 36th St., Phoenix.

Children's services at Temple Beth Sholom

Temple Beth Sholom will hold High Holiday children's services for 3-year-olds through pre-bar/bat mitzvah age, separated by age group. Services will begin at 10 a.m. on the first and second days of Rosh Hashana, Sept. 7-8 and Yom Kippur, Sept. 16, at the synagogue, 3400 N. Dobson Road, Chandler. Services will provide children the opportunity to learn about holiday meanings through prayer, stories and activities. USY services for bar/bat mitzvah age children through high school will begin 11 a.m. on the same three days.

Meditate, heal with Ruach Hamidbar

Ruach Hamidbar - Spirit of the Desert will hold High Holiday services at the Scottsdale Hilton Resort, 6333 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale. Rabbi Ayla Grafstein, accompanied by Cantors Kira and David Newman, will lead services. Guests include meditation leaders, healers, musicians and storytellers. Rosh Hashana services will be held Sept. 6-7. Yom Kippur services will be held Sept. 15-16. Ruach Hamidbar will also offer a shofar and healing service at Saguaro Lake 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8.

Cost is $200. For children under age 12, cost is $75. For students and children over age 12, cost is $100. Tickets include services for the first day of Rosh Hashana and all Yom Kippur services.

Inspirational messages with Or Adam

Or Adam Congregation for Humanistic Judaism will hold High Holiday services at Scottsdale Community College, 9000 E. Chaparral Road. Services include a Rosh Hashana service Sept. 6, a children's New Year service Sept. 8, a Yom Kippur service Sept. 15 and a memorial service Sept. 16. Services will include meditation, poetry, Hebrew songs, stories, readings and inspirational messages.

Cost is $40 per service or $100 for all services. For children and students, cost is $20 per service and $50 for all services. The children's New Year service is free.

Holidays at Kerr Cultural Center

Temple Beth Emeth of Scottsdale will hold High Holiday services at the Kerr Cultural Center, 6110 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale. Services will be held Sept. 6-8 and Sept. 15-16. Cantor David Niles and Ariel Simon will conduct services for the Conservative congregation.
