High Holiday Classes

New Shul prepares for 'Days of Awe'

The New Shul will hold "Preparing for the Days of Awe," a three-part adult study series, 7 p.m. Tuesdays, Aug. 20-Sept. 3, at a private home. The New Shul will also hold a pre-High Holiday fair for parents and children 9:30 a.m.-noon Sunday, Aug. 25. High Holiday services will be held at The Embassy Suites Hotel, 4415 E. Paradise Village Parkway, Scottsdale.

Young Israel holds prep classes

Young Israel of Phoenix will hold High Holiday preparation classes 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Aug. 27, and Sept. 3, at the synagogue, 745 E. Maryland Ave., Suite 120. Classes are "Rosh Hashana - Reviving the Living" and "Yom Kippur - Four Steps to Change." Young Israel will also hold "Strategic Teshuvah," followed by Selichot services, beginning 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, at the synagogue.

Hebrew class geared toward unaffiliated

Chabad of the East Valley will offer a Hebrew reading refresher course 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, at the University of Phoenix-Ahwatukee, 14647 S. 50th St. Chabad is offering the class in an effort to inspire unaffiliated Jews to become more involved in Jewish life during the High Holidays. The class is geared toward those who are unable to follow or fully understand liturgy during services. Call 480-855-4333.



Kollel presents three-step plan

The Phoenix Community Kollel will present "The High Holidays in Three Easy Steps." Step one consists of a lecture series, "What's so High about the High Holidays," to be held 8 p.m. Wednesdays through Aug. 28 at a private home in Scottsdale. Rabbi Zvi Holland and Rabbi Ariel Shoshan will discuss common questions regarding the High Holidays. Step two includes a Hebrew reading refresher course to be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, at Barnes & Noble bookstore, 10500 N. 90th St., Scottsdale. Step three consists of Aish Hatorah High Holiday Beginner Services, to be held on Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur at the Scottsdale Pima Inn, 7330 N. Pima Road. Cost for services is $50.
