On the site of the Ina Levine Jewish Community Campus, the membership department of the Valley of the Sun Jewish Community Center works from a trailer, answering questions and offering hardhat tours.

Department staff moved into the trailer June 26 and gave its first tour to charter members on June 30.

Prospective member tours are scheduled for 4-6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

To date, the center has 560 membership units, said Katie Fox, membership director.

The goal is 900 membership units when the campus opens.

Membership categories are individual, young adult, college student, senior adult, couple, senior couple, family and extended family and ranges from $30-$100 per month, with a $180 registration fee.

Planned membership programs include arrangements with synagogue leaders to offer reduced rates for new dual membership; corporate membership rates; and a free one-year subscription to Jewish News of Greater Phoenix for non-subscribers, which may be transferred to a non-subscribing friend.

The JCC is also seeking corporate sponsorship to underwrite sports leagues and other programs.

Members have access to the fitness center, pools and 40 free aerobic classes each week, Fox said. Extra fees may apply for advanced classes. Members will also pay reduced rates for general programming.

Membership is required to enroll in preschool. "It's in such high demand," Fox said. "We had to open an additional 3-year-old class because we had so many people they couldn't get in."

Currently, there are more than 200 children enrolled in the preschool. Non-member rates will be offered for classes, general programming and Camp Shemesh. To schedule a tour, call Wendy Weiss, 480-234-1537.
