Funds make all the difference

Editor:
I read with great interest your story, "Fostering Personal Connections" (Jewish News, May 31).

The Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix, along with sister federations in the western part of the country, provide the sole source of funding for Partnership 2000. In fact, this past year, our federation allocated $66,000 to Kiryat Malachi/Hof Ashkelon, which was second highest of the 16 participating communities. In addition, through our Israel Now Campaign, which is ongoing, we have provided $78,400 to build security fencing and $93,000 for safe rooms in the early childhood center, as the region borders on Gaza have been subjected to terrorist incidents these past 20 months.

While the funds are critical, we are equally proud of the people aspects of the program, which were well described in the article. Further, we have exported some of our best, including Mitzvah Day, which was a wonderful success in Kiryat Malachi.

During this time of crisis in Israel, knowing that we have real relationships provide a level of comfort that is difficult to describe. I felt this very profoundly when I visited the region in January. We are one people - one family.

Arthur Paikowsky
Executive Vice President
Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix
