Havurat Emet joins UAHC
LEISAH NAMM
Assistant Editor

Temple Havurat Emet of Sun Lakes is the latest Valley congregation to be accepted into the Union of American Hebrew Congregations (UAHC).
This makes it the eighth synagogue in the greater Phoenix area to have affiliation with the UAHC, the congregational arm of the Reform movement.
The 170-member congregation in the gated retirement community will now have access to the UAHC's programming resources and will be "part of a much larger family of congregations," said Temple Havurat Emet's Rabbi Lester Frazin.
Frazin leads the congregation's monthly Shabbat services with Cantorial Soloist Laura Eisenhart at the All-Faiths Chapel in Sun Lakes.
A Sunday brunch program featuring guest speakers is scheduled to start this fall; the congregation also plans to expand its social action program, Frazin said.
The congregation filed for UAHC affiliation in May 2001 and held its first Shabbat service in June 2001.
Other UAHC-affiliated Valley congregations in the Greater Phoenix area are Temple Beth Israel in Scottsdale, Temple Beth Shalom in Sun City, Temple Chai in Phoenix, Temple Emanuel of Tempe, Temple Gan Elohim in Glendale, Temple Kol Ami in Scottsdale and Temple Solel in Paradise Valley.
Elected officers of Temple Havurat Emet are Samuel Morris, president; Howard Weiss, vice-president of fund raising; Mel Moss, vice president of ritual; Beverly Friedberg, vice president of membership; Joyce Stein, secretary; and Lester Merritt, treasurer.
Annual membership dues are $36. For more information, call 480-802-0815 or 480-895-2643.
