Federation lowers allocations

The Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix granted $30,000 less in allocations for fiscal year 2002-2003 compared to 2001-2002, despite the fact that annual campaign totals increased slightly.
Allocations were decreased to create a cash reserve, said Art Paikowsky, federation executive vice president.
"One percent of the total campaign was held in reserve to keep federation financially sound and to be able to respond to local, national and international emergency needs," he explained. This amount equaled $51,460.
Many like-sized federations across the country have set up cash reserves as well, said Paikowsky.
The totals included:
- The Bureau of Jewish Education: $145,180; net decrease of $7,642.
- Council for Jews with Special Needs: $12,000; net decrease of $3,448.
- Hillel Jewish Student Center at Arizona State University: $164,627; net decrease of $3,360.
- Jewish Family and Chil-dren's Services: $255,644; net decrease of $13,455.
- The King David School: $88,730; net increase of $1,838.
- Kivel Campus of Care: $206,800; no change.
- The Pardes Jewish Day School: $34,100; net increase of $3,600.
- Phoenix Hebrew Academy: $116,110; net increase of $1,838.
- Greater Phoenix Vaad Hakashruth: $32,614; no change.
- Tri-City Jewish Community Center: $116,305; net increase of $7,196.
- Valley of the Sun Jewish Community Center: $318,540; net decrease of $16,765.
Federation has already used the cash reserve for a one-time emergency grant to the Valley of the Sun Jewish Community Center to assist its move to the Ina Levine Jewish Community Campus, said Paikowsky.
The federation board approved the allocations for fiscal year Aug. 1, 2002-July 31, 2003, at its June 11 board meeting.
