Temple Beth Israel selects rabbis

Temple Beth Israel has announced the hiring of rabbis Robert G. Klensin and Erica L. Burech to serve the congregation.

Klensin, who holds his first Shabbat service at the congregation Friday, June 28, received a one-year contract to serve as the interim rabbi while a national search to fill the senior rabbi position continues. Rabbi Kenneth I. Segel left the congregation earlier this month.

Burech has been hired as the director of religious education. The position was most recently held by Sandra Segel.

Klensin has been the rabbi of Temple Beth Shalom of Arnold in Annapolis, Md., for the past 28 years. He is a graduate of Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati.

Burech is an honors graduate in Near Eastern Judaic Studies from Brandeis University and a graduate of the Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion in Jerusalem, Israel and Los Angeles. She also served as Judaic programming director at Camp Charles Pearlstein during the summers of 1997-1999. She is moving to Phoenix from Jerusalem and will join the staff in mid-August.
