Obituaries

Gregory Karfeld

Gregory D. Karfeld of Phoenix died May 23, 2002. He was 38. He was born in St. Louis and moved to Arizona in 1971. He was a journeyman plumber and a member of Plumbers Local 469.

Survivors include his parents, Bonnie and Stanley of Phoenix; and brothers, Garry and Harlan, both of Phoenix.

Services were held at Phoenix Memorial Park, with Rabbi Michael Wasserman officiating. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Arizona Kidney Foundation, 4203 E. Indian School Road, #140, Phoenix 85024.



Rubin Schecter

Rubin Schecter of Scottsdale died May 23, 2002. He was 93. He was born in Chicago and moved to Arizona in 1979. He was a retired postal worker. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; daughters, Barbara Pierce of Scottsdale and Marlene Johnson of Calabasas, Calif.; son, Jerry of Glenview, Ill.; and five grandchildren.

Services were held at Green Acres Cemetery, with Rabbi Maynard Bell officiating. Arrangements were by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to American Cancer Society, 2929 E. Thomas Road, Phoenix 85016.



Libby "Billie" Myra Sheinbein

Libby "Billie" Myra Sheinbein, age 80, died May 23, 2002 in Phoenix. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she moved to the Valley 43 years ago from Washington, D.C. Known by all as "Billie," she was an extremely active force in the Jewish community. She was a founding member of Har Zion Congregation, Beth Joseph Congregation, the Phoenix Hebrew Academy and the Hebrew Academy of Washington, D.C.; and a lifetime member of Hadassah.

Survivors include her son Irwin (Tina) Sheinbein, daughter Dena Beth (Bruce) Jaffee, brother Lester (Lynn) Ginsberg, and eleven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack and son Mickey.

Graveside services were held on Friday, May 24th at the Chabad Cemetery. Contributions in her memory are requested to the Phoenix Hebrew Academy, 515 E. Bethany Home Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85015; or Hadassah Valley of the Sun, 7000 E. Shea Blvd., #250, Scottsdale, AZ 85254. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary.
