Jews persecuted everywhereEditor:These are some of my thoughts and suggestions on the Middle-East problem: Throughout history, when one conquers another country, they never give it back unless they themselves are conquered. Ghengis Khan, Alexander the Great, even Napoleon, once they conquered, that land remained in their possession. Yet the Palestinians, who tried to drive Israel into the sea with the combined help of five other Arab counties, were defeated and their land became Israel's. But Israel was willing to give back almost all it had conquered and was willing to live in peace side by side with the Palestinians. But that wasn't enough for Arafat. There is no viable way to stem or change the attack on Jews. No matter where we are, peaceful overtures have failed. Terrorism flourishes, and when we do what we can to destroy the ones who use children to kill other children, we are called murderers. What a farce and distortion of facts. Unless reason triumphs over hatred, there can be no peace in the Middle East. Murray Shaw Phoenix Don't publish propagandaEditor:Why did you to give space to Arab propaganda when there are so many pro-Israel letters and op-ed pieces you don't publish ("Hopes that Rabin's peace plan will prevail," Jewish News, May 10)? While Mohamed Jasser's definition of the bombers as "brainwashed killer zombies" may be accurate, his defining those who "claim" that there never was a Palestine as "right-wing fanatical Israelis" is pure Arab propaganda. Palestine was the name given by the British to the mandate to establish a homeland for the Jews in 1917. Until 1967, when one spoke of a Palestinian, it was assumed that one was referring to a Jew. There has never been an indigenous Palestinian people. Jasser's statement that "Ariel Sharon, the bellicose prime minister, responded with a lot of killing of his own," is insulting. Does he expect the leader of any country indefinitely to allow the equivalent of an Oklahoma City or Sept. 11 without response? We don't need Arab propaganda in OUR newspaper. We get more than enough in the local papers and national and international media. Joan Zuckerman Scottsdale
