JFCS receives grant

Jewish Family and Children's Service received $50,000 on March 14 from the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust to promote the Shelter Without Walls Program.

The program is intended to help victims break the cycle of domestic violence by guiding them to build independent, self-sufficient lives through counseling, employment training, housing assistance and childcare.

"Shelter Without Walls is an incredible asset to the community and a powerful program for the victims of domestic violence who have the courage to change their lives," said Craig Maron, director of JFCS Community Relations and Fund Development.

"What makes Shelter Without Walls unique is that the program teaches the women how to become independent from their situation and pursue healthy, positive lives," he said. "It is a long-term solution."

The Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust seeks to help people in need, especially women, children and families, animals and nature and to enrich community life in the metropolitan areas of Phoenix and Indianapolis. The trust was established upon Pulliam's death in 1997 with approximately $367 million in assets. The JFCS is among 21 Arizona nonprofit organizations receiving grant commitments, totaling more than $1.7 million. Call Maron, 602-2798-7655, ext. 285.
