Why shouldn't Israel defend itself?

Editor:
I can no longer keep quiet regarding what has been going on in the Middle East, and the president's statements to Israel. Israel has been fighting the Palestinians and the other Arab nations for over 50 years. The Arabs will not be happy with any deal until there is no Jewish homeland. Israel has tried to make peace. Israel has even given land back that it won in war, in hope for peace.

The attacks are still going on, and Yasser Arafat has done nothing to stop them. He tells the world that he condemns the suicide bombers, but he encourages them by calling them "martyrs." Israel is finally taking matters into its own hands.

Since Sept. 11, President Bush and Colin Powell should understand what Israel is going through and support Israel 100 percent. Instead, they tell Israel not to be aggressive. Bush has said that we will not tolerate any terrorism, or any country that harbors terrorists, and has sent troops to help fight terrorists and put an end to groups like the Taliban. Why is it OK for the United States to aggressively go after terrorists, but not for Israel to do so?
