Colleen Megowan, science and mathematics teacher at The Jess Schwartz Jewish Community High School, recently received a grant from the Eisenhower National Clearing House with Arizona State University Professor Marilyn Carlson and ASU instructor Sharon Walker. The group will present a course for high school math and science teachers, focusing on how to optimize student performance. Megowan also worked with Leon Lederman, a Nobel Laureate in Physics, to create "Physics First," a workshop recently presented at the National Science Teacher's Association meeting in San Diego. The workshop was sponsored by Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory.

The Desert Foothills Jewish Community Association has dispersed more than $16,000 to various organizations, including Camp Swift, Foothills Food Bank, Crisis Nursery, Jewish Community Campus and Magen David Adom. The donations are part of the DFJCA 2001 Charitable Giving Program.

Jed Margolis has been named executive director of Maccabi USA/Sports for Israel. He was previously vice president of the organization and is a Maccabiah Games alumnus.

Chef Christopher Gross of Christopher's Fermier Brasserie & Paola's Wine Bar in Phoenix was selected to prepare dinner for a fund-raising event for Florida Governor John Ellis "Jeb" Bush. The event was held March 18 at a private Phoenix home. Dinner was $25,000 per couple.

Ronni Anderson has been elected president-elect of the board of directors of the Arizona Business Alliance. Anderson will assume the presidency in April.

Hymson & Goldstein, PC, has added mediation to its full service practice, located at 14646 N. Kierland Blvd., Suite 255, Scottsdale.

Real estate attorney E.J. Peskind has opened a law office in the Scottsdale Airpark, 7047 E. Greenway Parkway, Suite 250. The practice will include litigation and transactions, title insurance, construction litigation, fraud and general business issues.

Geoffrey Trachtenberg has joined the law firm of Levenbaum & Cohen as an associate. He will focus his practice on personal injury cases and commercial litigation.

SIGN*A*RAMA was awarded the "Top Achievement in Marketing" in recognition of the store's sales volume and employee expertise in sales and marketing. Owners Wayne and Carol Lawson were recognized partially for their participation in local organizations, including the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce, the North Phoenix Chamber of Commerce and the Glendale Chamber of Commerce.
