Tenor raises money for JFCS

Canadian tenor Igor Portnoi will perform at the Jewish Family and Children's Service fund-raiser "With a Song in our Hearts" 6 p.m. Sunday, April 21, at the Scottsdale Center for the Arts, 7380 E. Second St.

The event is JFCS's main fund-raiser and benefits child abuse and domestic violence prevention. The event includes wine and dinner - with all dietary laws observed.

Russian-born Portnoi, who sings in seven languages, is a graduate of the State Institute for Theatrical Arts in Moscow and his credits include the world tour of "The Phantom of the Opera," performances with the Canadian Opera Company and The Hamilton Opera Company.

Tickets are $500 preferred seating, $150 general seating, $125 under age 35.

'Holocaust on Trial'

"Holocaust on Trial" is the subject of the NOVA program 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, on KAET-Channel 8.

The program covers the libel action suit by British author David Irving against Deborah Lipstadt, author of "Denying the Holocaust: The Growing Assault on Truth and Memory." The program has dramatized sequences that recreate the courtroom testimony and arguments and documentary segments.



'Liberation of spirit'

Holocaust survivor Magda Watts takes a personal journey back to the Nazi death camps of Poland in "Liberation of the Spirit: The Journey of Magda Watts," 10 p.m. Monday, April 15, on KAET-Channel 8. First-person interviews, archival photography and letters from family survivors are included.
