Volunteers raised $414,497 during Super Sunday, the 22nd annual phonathon of the annual campaign of the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix.

"In a year when everyone is still getting over 9-11 and what is happening in Israel, I was pleased with the turnout of volunteers and the enthusiasm showed across the community," says Howard Cabot, federation annual campaign co-chairman.

The 200 volunteers included federation board members, lay leaders and students from the Jess Schwartz Jewish Community High School and The King David School.

The total amount raised represented a 9.9 percent increase per pledge card from last year.

"I do not recall seeing such a large increase, card for card, in previous Super Sunday events," says Art Paikowsky, federation executive vice president.

Volunteers made calls from the federation office and received T-shirts, ice cream bars and door prizes.

The federation annual campaign supports 11 local Jewish agencies and 21 national agencies.

Of the funds raised during the campaign, 67 percent remains in the local community, and 33 percent is allocated for national, overseas and Israel programs.

Currently, the annual campaign has raised $3,631,000; last year at this time, the annual campaign had raised $3,505,000, said Josh Belkin, federation major gifts director.

The annual campaign giving corridor ends March 31, but gifts can be made until Dec. 31 online at www.jewishphoenix.org, or call 602-274-1800, ext. 124.
