Temple Emanuel to open preschool

East Valley parents will have a new Jewish education option for their children this fall with the opening of Temple Emanuel of Tempe's preschool, Yad B'Yad.

Slated to open Aug. 26, the preschool will serve 3-year-olds the first year, with plans to add a 4-year-old class the following year. Long-time Valley educator Syndi Scheck is developing the program.

"The focus of our program is to see the world through Jewish eyes," said Scheck.

The program will run three mornings a week and will feature Jewish themes to "encourage a really strong Jewish identity for the children," said Scheck.

Also included will be a family education program that will provide educational experiences for parents with the rabbi and other speakers, as well as interactive experiences between parents and children.

Additional options for parents are a positive change in the East Valley Jewish community, according to Scheck.

"To have choices just makes a positive statement about how many people we have living (in the East Valley) and what kind of services they need."

Registration begins April 1.

For information, call the temple at 480-838-1414.
