Desert Stages plays with 'tradition'

The Desert Stages Theatre performance of "Fiddler on the Roof" runs April 5-May 5 at the theater, 8473 E. McDonald Drive, Scottsdale.

The musical, directed by Marcie Berman, features 13-year-old Jessica Berman, a seventh-grader at The King David School and 10-year old Grace Cheifetz, a fifth-grader at the Arcadia Neighborhood Learning Center who has previously performed with the Arizona Jewish Theatre Company.

Show times are 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 6 p.m. Sundays.

Advance tickets are $14, $12 students and seniors. Tickets are $15 day of show.

'Diary of Anne Frank'

"The Diary of Anne Frank," presented by the Desert Mountain High School Players drama club, will run 7:30 p.m. April 3-5, at the school, 12575 E. Via Linda, Scottsdale.

The cast features Stephanie Altholz, Dan Berg, Becca Lynch, Chad Rosen and Gregg Starr. A portion of proceeds will go to the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles.

Spiritual quest

"Banging the Bishop: Latter Day Prophecy," an experimental, multi-media autobiographical one-man show by playwright Dustin Goltz and presented by Theater Numb, runs April 26-May 5, at Paper Heart Gallery, 222 N. Fifth Ave., Phoenix.

The show, with mature themes, is about a man who has to honor his temple covenants, serve a two-year mission, marry a good Mormon girl and have a dozen children - but is also Jewish and gay.

Show times are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 26-27, and 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, May 4-5. Tickets are $10 at the door.
